Photography

a life long passion
I was given my first camera when I was 12. It was given to me by the best teacher I could have asked for…my father.
The camera was an Asahi Pentax with a very simple light meter. It was completely manually operated. I remember I would walk around with this camera, always asking my father before taking a picture “ok, what settings should I use?” He would always make suggestions explaining why I would use one over the other.
Around the same time he showed me how to not only roll and develop my own film, but also how to print my own pictures.
Later in college while studying interior architecture, I was required to take a photography course. This was by far one of my favorite courses. The school had an amazing darkroom. It must have had 30 enlargers around the perimeter and a large counter and sink in the middle of the room for developing and washing. When I wasn’t taking pictures, I spent almost all of my free time in that darkroom.
I swore I would never go digital…that didn’t last long. I am currently on my second pro digital SLR. The only issue I am starting to see with shooting digital is that most of my photos go unprinted.
